Notes

Generation No. 1
ELHANAN1 GIBBS and FRANCES FANNY POLLY WILLIAMS were married in Randolph Co., GA as noted above,
and lived in Crawford Co., GA from 1814 through 1817.
During the War of 1812, Elhanan1 served two tours from Monticello in Jasper Co., GA.; the first in the 2nd Regt.
(Jenkins) Georgia Volunteers And Militia, having been enrolled as a Private in the Capt. Exum Boon's Company
of Infantry on October 27, 1813. He served with this Regmt. until discharged on March 9, 1814. He was enrolled
for his second tour of duty as a Private in Capt. Gilbert D. Greer's Company of Infantry, a part of Wootton's
Detachment, Georgia Militia. He served this second tour as a substitute for Whitmel Eason, from October 27, 1814
to February 7, 1815. He was then discharged at Ft. Hawkins, GA, peace having been proclaimed. During this second
tour, the Georgia Militia were directed against the Creek Indians and operated as part of General Floyd's Division.

While living in Crawford Co., GA, Elhanan1 and Frances had four children; two girls, Vashti2 and Irene/Irena2, and two
sons, Pulaski2 Floyd and Isaac2 Lloyd Gibbs.
Elhanan1 moved his family to Alabama sometime in 1817 to take up land grants from his Militia service. They lived in
Lamar Co., AL in 1818 (Lamar Co. was formed out of parts of Marion, Fayette, and Pickens Counties in 1867). They
moved to Baldwin Co., AL in 1820. From there they moved and settled in June 1824 on land in Butler Co., AL. During
this timeFrances gave birth to Elhanan2 Winchester, Jr., G.2 P., Jonathan2 P., Fatima2 Flama, William2 Robert Kenyon,
and Lucinda2 Clementine Gibbs.
About January 1827, Elhanan1 Winchester Gibbs, Sr. and his son, Pulaski2 Floyd Gibbs emigrated to the province
of Coahuila and Texas, and settled 8 miles from the mouth of the Brazos River in Austin's Colony. In early fall that
year they moved about twenty miles up the Brazos River to David Milburn's place. From there, Elhanan went out to
find suitable land, and established claim to acreage in DeWitt's Colony on the Guadelupe River and then returned
to the Brazos where he died on September 29, 1827 at San Filipe de Austin.
