Generation No. 1

THOMAS1 D. GIBBS was born between 1780 and 1790 in VA (according to the 1880 U.S. Census return for his son
WILLIAM2 WASHINGTON GIBBS) and died at a place unknown (possibly TN) in 1836.
He married twice, both times in Rowan Co. (later known as Forsyth Co.), NC. Marriage records and places of birth for his
children suggest residency first in Rowan Co. (as early as 1824) and also in Wilkes Co., NC as late as 1833.
He married first ANNA ROSINA SANER on 4 Jan 1823. She was born 21 Jan 1793 at Boomer, Friedburg, in Rowan Co, NC
and died at Friedburg, Rowan Co, NC on Jan 27 (the year is unknown but would have been at or sometime after the birth of
her son, MARTIN2 S. GIBBS in 1824. MARTIN2 S. GIBBS was their only child, suggesting her possible death in childbirth.
He married second MARGARET SMITH on 7 Dec 1826. She was born in 1802, in Rowan Co, NC and died 19 Jun 1895 in
Wilkes Co, NC. THOMAS1 D. GIBBS and MARGARET SMITH had six children. Of these, the last three were triplets!
