THE GIBBS SURNAME DNA PROJECT As Submitted By: Mike Keller This page was updated on: Born: In England (date unknown) Arrived in Boston, MA; in December, 1773 (per family tradition) Died: Not Stated Parents Siblings Marriages NotesGeneration No. 1 WILLIAM1 GIBBS was born in England and is believed to have immigrated to Boston, MA with his brother, JOHN,on (according to unproven family lore) December16, 1773, the night of the Boston Tea Party. Per the tradition, the brothers had a disagreement that resulted in JOHN returning to England (date unknown) while WILLIAM stayed in Boston and married ELIZABETH LORING on October 27, 1774 at Kings Chapel in Boston, MA (proven fact). No other documented record of the couple has been found until the birth of their second child, Catherine, on December 16, 1787 as recorded in the Helderbergh Reformed Church registry inGuilderland, NY. After that, the couple is more or less documented in different counties of New York State for the first half of the 1800s. There is also a history of chairmaking seen throughout the family. Due to the Revolutionary War ferver around Boston at the time of their marriage, it is possible that WILLIAM and ELIZABETH left that city for somewhere safer (such as Canada, New York City, or possibly even England for a time). They had four known children. Generation No. 2 Generation No. 3 Generation No. 4 Generation No. 5 Generation No. 6 Generation No. 7 |
