My earliest known (proven) relative along my paternal line is William Gibbs, my grandfather. According to information contained within a family Bible, he was born in Charlottesville, VA in 1874 and died in 1906, presumably in Fayette Co. West Virginia (so far, no birth or death records have been discovered). Family records indicate that William Gibbs married my grandmother, Ada Linwood Reed of New Canton, VA (Buckingham Co., VA) on November 26, 1900 in West Virginia. Two years later, my father, William McKinley Gibbs, was born in New Canton, VA. A daughter, Rosa Lee, was born in 1904 (location unknown).

Conventional genealogical research is ongoing, and at this time some records and deductive reasoning is pointing to a connection between William and a certain couple who may have been his parents. But until solid evidence is found, or a preponderance of evidence establishes this connection beyond all reasonable doubt, the following proposed lineage is suggested:
